Prachi Desai was born in Surat, Gujarat where she lived until her grade 9. She completed her higher studies in Pune. She attended Sinhagad college, Pune. Her father and uncle are associated with Gujrati theater. She began her acting career with TV serial Kasam Seh at age 17. She discontinued her studies for a short time but is back to completing it through correspondence course.

1. Best Actress – for The Global Indian TV Honours.
2. Best Actress at Sansui Television Awards (2008) (Popular Category) for her portrayal as Bani Walia in Kasamh Se.
